Connect guide

How to connect PostEx to your store

You need one thing: the API token from your PostEx merchant portal, under Settings → API. It is a long code, not the password you sign in with. Paste it into ShipOps and pick the pickup address your bookings go out from. ShipOps checks the token with PostEx before saving it.

What you need

one thing
Merchant token Your PostEx API token. Find it in your PostEx merchant portal under Settings → API. This is the code that lets an app like ShipOps read your PostEx account. It is not the password you use to sign in to the portal.

Where to find it in PostEx's portal

  1. Sign in to your PostEx merchant portal.
  2. Open Settings, then API.
  3. Copy the API token from that page, the whole code, and paste it into ShipOps.

Don't have it yet?

If there is no API section under Settings in your PostEx portal, or no token on it, API access is not switched on for your account yet. Ask your PostEx account manager for API access.

You can send: "Please enable API access on my PostEx merchant account and share my API token."

Connecting it in ShipOps

  1. Install ShipOps from the Shopify App Store, or open it if you already have it. On your first visit ShipOps asks you to connect a courier; later, it lives under Settings → Couriers & store.
  2. Choose PostEx and fill in Merchant token.
  3. Press Connect PostEx. ShipOps checks the details with PostEx before it saves them, so a typo shows up straight away, not a day later. When it works you see Saved — credentials confirmed.
  4. Under Pickup address, press Choose…, pick the one your parcels ship from, and press Save. ShipOps loads the list from your PostEx account. This is what bookings and labels are made under; you can skip it if you only want tracking.
  5. That's it. Your PostEx parcels load in the background, so there is nothing to wait for. They appear in your inbox as they arrive.

ShipOps stores your PostEx details encrypted and uses them only to read your own account and to do what you ask from the app: a booking, a label, a retry or return. Your rates and your contract with PostEx stay exactly as they are, and the COD cash still goes from PostEx straight to your bank.

PostEx lists every address on your account, but only pickup addresses can be used for bookings, so an address marked for returns only is not offered. If you have no pickup address yet, add one in the PostEx merchant portal under Settings → Addresses, then choose it in ShipOps. The address you pick prints on the airway bill and is where returns come back to.

If PostEx won't connect

ShipOps says PostEx rejected my token

Almost always the portal password was pasted instead of the token. Go to Settings → API in your PostEx merchant portal, copy the API token again, the whole code with no spaces before or after, and connect again.

ShipOps says PostEx returned no pickup address

Your token works, but PostEx has no pickup address on the account. Add one in the PostEx merchant portal under Settings → Addresses, then pick it in ShipOps. Tracking works without it; booking needs it.

I connected but my parcels have not appeared yet

Your existing PostEx parcels load in the background after you connect. For a store with a lot of history this can take a few minutes. You can keep working while it runs.

My store's fulfilments say Call Courier, not PostEx

That is fine. PostEx runs the old Call Courier network, so ShipOps treats those parcels as PostEx parcels once your PostEx token is connected.
