Smartlane “Attempt”: what it means
Attempt failed
Smartlane Attempt means the partner courier tried to deliver and could not. The parcel is still with the courier, and the courier's own update says why: the customer was not home, refused, or, as on TCS parcels, the parcel is waiting at the courier's office for the customer to collect ("Awaiting Receiver Collection").
Smartlane then opens an advice request for the parcel and asks you to choose: Reattempt or Return. The request has a deadline, about a day and a half after it opens, so answer before it expires.
Before you answer, call or message the customer. If they still want the order and will be home, or will collect it, choose Reattempt. If they cancelled or cannot be reached, a Return stops the parcel running up another failed trip.
What to do now
| Your move | A delivery failed; the courier's own words say why. Reach the customer, then answer Smartlane's request. |
|---|---|
| The customer | The customer usually knows the rider came. With a self-collection hold they may not know the parcel is waiting at the courier's office; tell them where, and that they need the tracking number. |
| How long it usually lasts | Until you answer Smartlane's advice request, or it expires (about 36 hours). |
| Retry or return | Smartlane takes a retry or return instruction only on a parcel it has opened a ticket for. ShipOps keeps an eye on those tickets and puts the buttons on exactly those parcels. |

How ShipOps reads it
Attempt failed A delivery failed, the courier still has it. The parcel goes into the Action Inbox with the courier's reason in plain words. The useful move is to reach the customer before the next attempt; ShipOps puts the call and WhatsApp buttons on the row and counts the attempts made so far.
ShipOps shows every courier's parcels in the same few plain states, so your team learns one set of words instead of one per courier. All Smartlane statuses →
The same state on other couriers
