M&P “Unsuccessful Delivery Attempt”: what it means

7 Attempt failed

On M&P, 7 Unsuccessful Delivery Attempt means a rider went to the customer and came back with the parcel. The note says why, "An attempt to deliver your shipment failed due to:" and a reason, and ends "Delivery will be rescheduled on next working day." M&P tries again without being asked.

Common reasons include "Consignee refused to accept", "Consignee's address belongs to non-service area", "Address was closed (due to Friday/Saturday)" and "Consignee does not exist". Sometimes M&P gives no reason at all.

"Address was closed" means nobody was at the door, often on a weekend. It is not a bad address, so call the customer rather than changing the address. After one or more failed visits M&P may move the parcel to 8 Hold for Advice, which is when your instruction counts. ShipOps puts the failed visit in your inbox with the reason in plain words.

What to do now

Your move A failed visit, with the reason under it. M&P tries again on its own. Reach the customer before the next visit.
The customer Often the customer says no rider came or nobody called. Ask for a good time and a working number before the next visit.
Retry or return M&P takes a retry or return instruction only while the parcel is in its review window. ShipOps raises the parcel when that window opens and files the instruction from the order.

How ShipOps reads it

Attempt failed A delivery failed, the courier still has it. The parcel goes into the Action Inbox with the courier's reason in plain words. The useful move is to reach the customer before the next attempt; ShipOps puts the call and WhatsApp buttons on the row and counts the attempts made so far.

ShipOps shows every courier's parcels in the same few plain states, so your team learns one set of words instead of one per courier. All M&P statuses →
