Courier integration

Smartlane In testing

Smartlane is a Lahore courier aggregator and COD settlement platform: one account, and each parcel goes out with a partner courier such as TCS, Leopards, M&P or Trax. ShipOps connects with your Smartlane API token, tracks every parcel from the tracking numbers on your store's orders, shows which courier is carrying it, answers Smartlane's retry-or-return requests, and checks the COD statement Smartlane sends you. Smartlane is still marked In testing.

Smartlane is based in Lahore Cantt and calls itself one platform for e-commerce shipping in Pakistan: booking across the courier network, a branded tracking page, and money. Its site names three products, Smart Delivery, Smart Settlements and Smart Finance, and says COD can be settled as soon as an order is dispatched. The couriers on its site include TCS, Leopards, M&P, Trax, Call Courier, BlueEx, Swyft, Rider and Fast.

Because a partner carries the parcel, the tracking number on your Shopify order is that courier's own number, and the updates read like TCS or Leopards updates. In ShipOps the carrier is still Smartlane, because that is where your bookings, your advice requests and your payment are. Each update shows which courier it came from.

Smartlane the Pakistani courier platform is not Smartlane the German route-planning software for delivery fleets, and it is not a lane-keeping feature in a car. This page is about smartlane.pk. ShipOps also supports other aggregators that work the same way, one account and a partner courier per parcel: DigiDokaan, Rocket Courier and Oshi Courier.

Smartlane is new in ShipOps, so it carries the In testing tag. Tracking and advice work on a live account, and we are still checking Smartlane's stages against real deliveries and returns. If you see something that looks wrong, tell us and we fix it.

What ShipOps does with Smartlane

Live tracking Yes. ShipOps finds your Smartlane parcels from the tracking numbers on your store's fulfilments and follows each one with Smartlane.
Retry / return instruction Smartlane opens a ticket on a parcel it could not deliver and only an open ticket takes an instruction. ShipOps keeps an eye on those tickets and puts the retry and return buttons on exactly those parcels. How to save a failed Smartlane delivery →
Booking and labels Not with Smartlane yet.
COD payouts You upload the statement. Drop in the payout statement Smartlane sends you and ShipOps reads it. How Smartlane pays COD, in detail →

Connecting Smartlane

Enter your Smartlane API token into ShipOps. ShipOps checks it with Smartlane before saving, shows the shipper name the account belongs to, and stores the token encrypted.

ShipOps finds your Smartlane parcels from the tracking numbers on your store's orders: Smartlane's app writes "Smartlane" and the courier's number on every order it ships. Smartlane has no way to list every parcel on an account, so a parcel booked in the Smartlane portal for an order that never reached your store will not appear. Nothing is changed in your store until you turn a write-back on.

Smartlane gives each parcel its own stage (booked, ready, dispatched, out for delivery, attempted, returning, delivered, returned) beside the courier's scans. ShipOps reads the stage, so a TCS parcel and a Leopards parcel read the same way.

When Smartlane opens an advice request on a parcel, ShipOps shows retry and return on it and sends your answer. A request stays open for about a day and a half.

Booking from ShipOps is not offered for Smartlane yet. Keep booking in the Smartlane app or portal; the parcels appear in ShipOps as soon as the tracking number reaches your order.

What Smartlane's statuses mean

9 phrases in plain words

Dispatch In transit Handed to the partner courier. Nothing to do.
Out For Delivery In transit With the rider today. Make sure the customer is reachable and has the cash ready.
Attempt Attempt failed A delivery failed; the courier's own words say why. Reach the customer, then answer Smartlane's request.
Dispute Needs your decision Smartlane has raised a dispute with the courier. Check the parcel in your Smartlane portal.
Return In Progress Coming back Coming back to you. Nothing to do until it arrives.
Return Returned to you Back with you. Check it in.

Cancel Cancelled Cancelled before the courier picked it up.

Every Smartlane status on its own page →

Smartlane is still in testing. If a parcel shows a stage ShipOps does not recognise yet, ShipOps shows it as unknown rather than guessing, and we add it.
The courier's words are not the status. A Smartlane parcel's trail carries the partner courier's own scans ("Departed From TCS Facility", "Awaiting Receiver Collection"). ShipOps shows them on the order, but reads the parcel's status from Smartlane's own stage, so one courier's wording can never mark a parcel delivered by mistake.
A delivered stage beside a return is a return. If a parcel has started its way back, ShipOps reads it as returning even when another field says complete, and never tells your store it was delivered.

Why a Smartlane delivery fails, as ShipOps names it

Address problem Non-service area · Address issue
Customer refused Refused to accept
Held Held for customer pickup
Customer not available Consignee not available · Consignee out of city
Other Order cancelled · Needs review
Phone problem Phone not responding

These are the reasons Smartlane gives on a failed visit, given one plain label each so your team sees "Customer not available", never the raw string. The family decides what the Action Inbox suggests: an address problem asks the customer for a landmark, a phone problem tries WhatsApp, a refusal asks whether to return.

Questions merchants ask about Smartlane

Is Smartlane the same as the German Smartlane route-planning software?

No. That Smartlane plans delivery routes for fleets in Europe. This page is about Smartlane (smartlane.pk), the Pakistani courier aggregator and COD settlement platform based in Lahore.

Is Smartlane a courier or an aggregator?

An aggregator. Smartlane books your parcels with partner couriers, such as TCS, Leopards, M&P or Trax, from one Smartlane account, and adds its own tracking stages, advice requests and COD settlement on top.

Which courier actually carries my Smartlane parcel?

The partner the parcel was booked with. ShipOps shows it on every update, and the tracking number on your order is that courier's own number.

My order says TCS in the tracking. Should I connect TCS instead?

Not for these parcels. If you booked them through Smartlane, connect Smartlane: that is the account that holds them. Connect TCS only for parcels you book on your own TCS account.

What do I need to connect Smartlane?

Your Smartlane API token. Smartlane issues it for your account; ask your account manager or write to smartlanetech@smartlane.pk. ShipOps stores it encrypted.

Why is Smartlane marked In testing?

Smartlane is new in ShipOps and we are still checking its stages against real deliveries and returns. The tag tells you a status may occasionally show wrong. Tell us if you see one and we fix it.

Can I answer Smartlane's shipper advice from ShipOps?

Yes. While Smartlane has an open advice request on a parcel, ShipOps shows Reattempt and Return on it and sends your answer to Smartlane.

Can I book Smartlane parcels from ShipOps?

Not yet. Keep booking in the Smartlane app or portal. Every parcel appears in ShipOps once its tracking number reaches your order.

Smartlane has its own Shopify app. Do I still need ShipOps?

Smartlane's app books parcels and settles COD. ShipOps works after the booking: it puts the parcels that need you in one inbox, follows up with customers on WhatsApp, and checks Smartlane's statement against your orders. You can keep using both.

Does ShipOps see my Smartlane payments?

Not by itself. Smartlane's API has no payment data, so upload the statement on the Money screen and ShipOps checks it.

Where can my customer track a Smartlane parcel?

On Smartlane's tracking page at smartlane.pk/track, with the tracking number on the order. ShipOps shows the same parcel's trail on the order.

My tracking links say smartlane.com.pk, not smartlane.pk. Is that the same Smartlane?

Yes. Older Smartlane orders carry smartlane.com.pk links and newer ones smartlane.pk. ShipOps picks up both.

Can ShipOps mark my Smartlane orders delivered in Shopify?

Yes, once you turn delivered write-back on in Settings. ShipOps marks an order delivered only when Smartlane's own stage says so, never because a courier's update contains the word.

Does ShipOps touch the COD?

No. ShipOps reads your Smartlane account with your token. The money moves between you, Smartlane and the courier, never through ShipOps.
