Next Step “ADVICE_REQUESTED”: what it means

Needs your decision

Next Step ADVICE_REQUESTED means a delivery stopped and Next Step is asking you, the shipper, whether to try again or send the parcel back. This is the only time Next Step takes your answer.

There are two answers: try again (REATTEMPT_REQUEST) or return (RETURN_CONFIRM). There is no space for a new address, so a retry to a different address is refused: fix the details with the customer, then say retry. ShipOps shows both buttons on the order while Next Step is asking.

Sometimes Next Step moves on before the status here catches up, for example starting the return a couple of days later. ShipOps follows the newer word, so you are not asked about a parcel already on its way back.

What to do now

Your move Next Step is waiting for you. Say retry or return from the order in ShipOps.
The customer The customer may not know the delivery stopped. Ask whether they still want it before you answer.
Retry or return Next Step takes a retry or return instruction only on a parcel it has opened a ticket for. ShipOps keeps an eye on those tickets and puts the buttons on exactly those parcels.

How ShipOps reads it

Needs your decision The courier is waiting for your decision. This is the window where an instruction still changes the outcome. ShipOps raises the parcel to the top of the Action Inbox, and where the courier lets ShipOps send a retry or return, the buttons on the row file it with the courier directly.

ShipOps shows every courier's parcels in the same few plain states, so your team learns one set of words instead of one per courier. All Next Step statuses →
