Next Step “RETURN_ARRIVED_AT_ORIGIN”: what it means
Coming back
Next Step RETURN_ARRIVED_AT_ORIGIN means the returned parcel has reached Next Step's own hub in your city. "Origin" is the courier's hub, not your warehouse. The parcel has not been handed back to you.
This is the one merchants misread. It sounds like the end of the return, but a parcel can sit here a while before a rider brings it to you. The handover comes later: ASSIGNED_FOR_RETURN, then PARCEL_RETURNED.
ShipOps keeps the parcel as returning, not returned, until the handover.

How ShipOps reads it
Coming back On its way back to you. The return is committed, so ShipOps stops suggesting retries and moves the parcel to the returns list. When it lands, checking it in records that you have the goods back, and the return charge is counted against the order.
ShipOps shows every courier's parcels in the same few plain states, so your team learns one set of words instead of one per courier. All Next Step statuses →
