M&P “Failed Delivered”: what it means
16 Coming back
On M&P, 16 Failed Delivered means M&P has cancelled the delivery and the parcel is coming back to you. The note reads "Delivery of the shipment has been cancelled, it will be sent back to shipper." Despite the word delivered in its name, nothing was delivered.
It usually follows 8 Hold for Advice. It can also come after you asked for a retry, with no second visit in between. After it come the return statuses, and finally 15 Return to Vendor/Return to Shipper when the parcel is back with you.
This is when the return starts costing you: no COD will come, and M&P's charges for the parcel still land on a later payment. ShipOps shows it as a return, never a delivery, with the reason from the last failed visit on the order.

How ShipOps reads it
Coming back On its way back to you. The return is committed, so ShipOps stops suggesting retries and moves the parcel to the returns list. When it lands, checking it in records that you have the goods back, and the return charge is counted against the order.
ShipOps shows every courier's parcels in the same few plain states, so your team learns one set of words instead of one per courier. All M&P statuses →
