M&P “Hold for Advice”: what it means

8 Needs your decision

On M&P, 8 Hold for Advice means M&P has stopped trying to deliver and is waiting for you to say what to do: try again, or send it back. The note repeats the failure reason and ends "Shipment is hold for shipper's advice." It is the only M&P status where you can give an instruction.

It usually follows 7 Unsuccessful Delivery Attempt. The reason may read "Refused to Received" or "Non Service Area". A non-service-area hold is not always final; M&P sometimes still delivers it.

When you ask for a retry, the parcel shows 9 Re-Attempt Advice. M&P can still cancel the delivery and start the return, 16 Failed Delivered, even after a retry was asked for. In ShipOps the retry and return buttons appear on this parcel, and ShipOps sends your answer to M&P for you.

What to do now

Your move M&P is holding the parcel until you say retry or return. Answer from the order in ShipOps.
The customer The customer decides this one. Call first: a customer who wants the parcel and gives a time is a retry; one who refuses is a return.
Retry or return M&P takes a retry or return instruction only while the parcel is in its review window. ShipOps raises the parcel when that window opens and files the instruction from the order.

How ShipOps reads it

Needs your decision The courier is waiting for your decision. This is the window where an instruction still changes the outcome. ShipOps raises the parcel to the top of the Action Inbox, and where the courier lets ShipOps send a retry or return, the buttons on the row file it with the courier directly.

ShipOps shows every courier's parcels in the same few plain states, so your team learns one set of words instead of one per courier. All M&P statuses →
