PostEx “Waiting for Return”: what it means

0039 Coming back

PostEx 0039 Waiting for Return means the parcel is at a PostEx office, marked for return, and waiting to be sent back to you. The delivery is over. The parcel is not lost and not with the customer's rider; it is in a queue for the trip home.

It sits between 0037 Return to {city} and 0032 En Route to Merchant Warehouse, and almost every PostEx return passes through it. PostEx will not try the customer again after it. It is also what often closes a 0008 Delivery Under Review window you did not answer in time. If a window you meant to answer has gone, look here.

ShipOps shows 0039 as Coming back. Use the wait to decide what happens when the parcel lands: restock it, resell it, or call the customer about a fresh order.

What to do now

Your move Waiting at a PostEx office to come back to you. Nothing to do but expect it.

How ShipOps reads it

Coming back On its way back to you. The return is committed, so ShipOps stops suggesting retries and moves the parcel to the returns list. When it lands, checking it in records that you have the goods back, and the return charge is counted against the order.

ShipOps shows every courier's parcels in the same few plain states, so your team learns one set of words instead of one per courier. All PostEx statuses →
