TCS “Receiver Refused To Accept Shipment”: what it means

RD Needs your decision Also printed as Refused to accept · Recipient Refused To Accept

TCS RD Receiver Refused To Accept Shipment means the rider reached the customer and the customer would not take the parcel. It is not delivered and not yet on its way back. TCS holds it while you decide: retry, or return.

What usually follows is On Hold at TCS Facility, then Returned To TCS Origin, then Returned To Sender. The time before Returned To TCS Origin is your window. It can close within hours, so act the same day.

A refusal is not always final. A customer who did not have the cash ready, wanted to open the parcel first, or was not the one at the door can often be talked round. ShipOps puts the parcel in Needs attention with retry and return buttons, and sends your retry to TCS from the order.

What to do now

Your move The customer refused at the door. Decide: return it, or talk the customer round and ask TCS to retry.
The customer The customer may now say they never refused, or that they wanted to check the parcel first. Ask before you send a retry. A second refusal costs you the freight both ways.
How long it usually lasts Usually not long. TCS can start the return within hours of the refusal, sometimes the next day.
Retry or return TCS takes a retry or return instruction only while the parcel is in its review window. ShipOps raises the parcel when that window opens and files the instruction from the order.
Attempts TCS tries 3 times before it starts a return.

How ShipOps reads it

Needs your decision The courier is waiting for your decision. This is the window where an instruction still changes the outcome. ShipOps raises the parcel to the top of the Action Inbox, and where the courier lets ShipOps send a retry or return, the buttons on the row file it with the courier directly.

ShipOps shows every courier's parcels in the same few plain states, so your team learns one set of words instead of one per courier. All TCS statuses →
